The Service staff recently asked for assistance with sign on and security. It seems that that security has become a necessary but, cumbersome aspect of using our service tools. For example one aspect requires three separate logins with separate passwords at each page before you can start using the function. As well, each person has their own set of three different passwords. Another frustrating part is that these passwords require updating every month.

In order to make this an easy item to control and make signing on a relatively easy job we installed an old favorite program. That is TYPEITIN.

This small utility allows one to click buttons to semi-automatically insert text. Each person can be assigned a specific group of buttons with their own logons and passwords. Easily updated, the TYPEITIN program allows the service manager / tech to sign on to three separate windows in 15 seconds or less. Each person can quickly update the password and buttons on their own each month.

While security is a necessary evil, it need not be so cumbersome as to inconvenience our own staff.

Some of you may already be using this small program; as it is an item I presented here for other uses some time ago.

Does this work for all the ADP or R&R login passwords too?

I agree that the security on websites is getting a little silly, but until we get fingerprint ID pads on all our computers I am not sure what else will do.

Rob .. yes will work on all the systems using Windows.

We have our own in house server (outside of the OEM ).. The TYPEITIN program is set up there .. this way when a user changes the info on one individual computer all the systems using the utility program are updated. The short cut for Typeitin is on every desktop and in the startup folder, this way it launches at startup.

One really neat thing about the program is that each set of buttons (GROUP) can have its own master password set by the individual user. This way they only need ever remeber one main password, while securing all thier own sign ons for everything they use.
