Warranty Company Watching

Postby trish » Fri Oct 15, 2004 9:29 am

I would like to tell everyone that I love being able to post questions or problems and get feedback from our peers. However, I posted a comment about WPI in response to someone asking about warranty processing companies and was contacted by WPI telling me I should not post any more negative comments about them. 1. My comment was the truth about our outcome involving their company. I did say that if you so choose to go with WPI to take it slowly and month to month to see if it works for your dealership. 2. Now I feel like I must watch what information I give to anyone because there are obviously people other than dealership personnel on the site. I just want everyone to know that anything I post will be the truth and will be posted as a means to help if I can.

Trish ...

I think your past comments where balanced and based on your words I did not kick them out of a possible working relationship. I did however , read and learn from your comments to be wary and to excercise caution. Basically, to learn from your experience, which is what I think you intended.

It is interesting that they would contact you, likely, it would have been better for them just to let sleeping dogs lie, or at least learn from the expereince.

A customer that communictates a negative is better than one that remains silent and just never returns. Communication at least provides an opportunity to try and repair the relationship and even win the customer back for life.

I appreciated your input and hope you will continue to exercise that one great freedom that of "freedom of speech" we enjoy in this part of the world.

John

Trish,
I am with Jonny O on this one. Don't stop telling us about your experiences. That's what this forum is for, not all the same things work for all of us. We are just trying to give each other food for thought or a new idea we hadn't thought of.

It's nice to share the info as that's why we all visit this discussion board.

However you (and the owners/admins of this site) should be careful what negative information is posted.

While perhaps not an everyday occurence, lawsuits (some of them very damaging) HAVE been known to pop up over "vendor bashing" on discussion boards. If you have something negative to say I would suggest posting something like "If anyone is interested my my experiences with XYZ warranty company, please contact me off-list."

Not trying to be an alarmist.....just a "heads up" to the group.

Trish, you can post whatever you like - if I don't cut it out or censor it then obviously I am ok with your comments as they are your comments. Being judge, jury and executioner for the board does have some privileges, but telling someone what to think isnt one of them. Again- just for some balance I am friends with the people over at WPI, and Ive always known them to be a knowledgeable and a quality company. If your experience differs you have every right to say your experience.

Your second point and just to make sure it is clear for everyone else absolutely everyone under the sun can read these posts. If youve got Internet access then youve got all the requirements needed to read the boards. At any time various vendors, manufacturer reps, and related industry people will read the boards (I can tell because we obviously record and track every IP that visits that little IP: logged saying in the bottom corner of the post allows me to at least verify identity to some degree). So just a reminder that this is a very public venue to voice anything and not only is it public but it is archived virtually for years.

Now what !!!!!
I can't believe that a company like that is so rude...What about freedom of speech ? Well I know that in the United states it is easy to sue for something like that but if we have to censor our speech on those forums where are we going ?

Trish, I am not now nor have ever been an attorney, but I do know enough to be dangerous. Slander and libel have to do with false, malicious, and defamatory statements either uttered or printed. Your 1st Amendment rights guarantee you the right to speak your mind within that context. If you were not happy with the services provided by an individual or a company, the statement of such facts is your right to do so. I once posted a sign in front of a new house I had just bought stating my unhappiness with the builder. His attorney partner called and tried to coerce me into removing the sign. When I told him what I just told you, he pulled in his horns and hung up. Speak the truth and it will set you free they say.

Get out your history books, folks. The first amendment does little to protect you or this forum. And, in fact, the admins of this board can censor whatever they like if they have a mind to.

The First Amendment and "Freedom of Speech" is a matter between you and your government, as it allows you to speak against (or protest against) the *government* without fear of reprisal. It does not necessarily allow you to say whatever you like in other situations.

I'm no lawyer, either. But just search the www for "discussion group lawsuits" and you'll get the picture. I can't remember the exact name but look for the one about the pet store owner...and numerous members of his www forum....losing, literally, everything they owned.

And libel cases have been one even when the material was true....

Anyhow, I don't want to beat this dead horse any further. I was just suggesting some caution be used

Cheers
