If you had to take a guess what percentage of your DMS's capabilities do you feel you use and use properly. I have read that on average its around 30% and have wondered how accurate that figure is.

1st, I'm a parts manager. I think we use probably 60~65% of the capibilities of our DMS. We have SO turned on, I'm using lots of different stocking groups to track different types of sales, I have my inventory broken down correctly (242, 242a, 243, 244, ect) so we can take inventories easier. We use kits - but sparingly. We don't have fast quoting.

We don't use e-dispatch, we don't using e-time clock.e-payroll. We don't use the DBC included with our DMS - we use a 3rd party solution that cost MORE than our DMS...
Sales doesn't use the location feature for vehicles on the lot.

All told, I'd say we use about 50% of the systems capabilites.

*opps* I forgot, We're currently on DealerTrack/Arkona...but they are looking again...

Bluedane,
I think that 30% figure comes from ADP and R&R. When you complain about their pricing their pat answer is that you may not feel as though it's a good value because you are "only using 30% of your systems capabilities." I generally respond that I am using the 30% I need and that the other 70% is fluff, so how about charging me for the 30% I use. Honestly I think that most dealers are using the system to the extent that is necessary to run their business, no more no less. It's kind of like natural selection in nature.

I'm sure there is some stuff that I'm not familiar with but, I feel like we use alot of it here. Arkona.

I'd say 70% is much more likely than 30%.
