Q.C.

Postby bs » Fri May 18, 2001 11:02 am

At the present time, our dealer is land locked until our other facilities are built. we are trying to q.c.every car after repairs, but they are being parked on a remote lot which makes it difficult to locate and know if all the cars are being test driven. Does anyone have any suggestions, ie. magnetic caps, antenna markers...we have five advisors and would like five colors for roof hats...but can't find anything like that. any suggestions on products or process in q.c'ing would be appreciated.

BS:
If different colored car hats will solve your problems you can find them at http://www.cee-jay.com . In one GM plant I toured they had gotten rid of most of their inspectors and had each person on the line be their own QC inspector. The idea was that the assembler might cross thread a screw but not have time to correct the mistake. He circled that area on a card and later on down the line someone with time replaced the screw. I always wanted to institute a similar policy for quality control, where the technician indicated on the RO whether or not he is sure he took care of the problem. This will not help with grease on the carpet but will work with most other stuff. Good luck with you QC problems. My best efforts were with convincing the techs and everyone else in the dealership that their future is dependent on happy customers and that is the most important thing.

The congestion and confusion on your lot is likely an inconvenience to your customers and technicians as well as the advisors attempting Q.C..
If you have lot guys, and I hope you do given the situation, I would try investing in a couple of cheap motorola radios and anchor them at dispatch. In that way, whether a customer, tech or advisor needs a vehicle, they can contact dispatch and request the car be brought forward. This would minimize the inefficient use of the tech's and advisor's time hunting for keys, moving and finding the cars, allowing them to invest more time on more consequential activities. If hats help the lot guys be more efficient then get them too!
