Labor Matrix/Grid System

We had a consultant in the other day who suggested a matrix in billing out CP labor hours. On repair procedures that require higher skill levels, the more hours needed to do the repair, the higher the labor rate: if one job took 1.0 hours it would be at $75.00 per hour,if another at the same skill level took 3.0 it would be at $85.00, another at 5.0 might be $105.00. Menu/Competitive/Maint is not included in this matrix.
Anyone had experience with this? Any thoughts? Thanks

Yup, been using it for years, it works.

The only downfall for us is that we do SO much service contract work that we don't get to use the grid as often as we like....as service contract companies won't pay matrixed labor rates.

If you have R&R (not sure about others) there is a job to build a labor grid

ADP's next release (Web2006, which is being installed now) has 'grid pricing' functionality.

Prior to this release, it was available through car-ink's custom programming.

been using grid pricing for years and although Old Irish is right on about the impact that Service Contract repairs have, we experienced a significant increase in effective labor rate with virtually no negative feedback from our Clients. In addition, when we get the inevitable question "what is your labor rate?", we can confidently reply "it varies based on the job". I wholeheartedly recommend the grid to you.

If you have a labor rate that "varies based on the job," and your manufacturer or state requires you to post your labor rate or print your labor rate on a repair order, what rate do your post/print?

Do you know if the WEB2006 product "grid pricing" will have the same functionality as Car-Inks? The product is priced at $900 install with a $30 mth maint and I would rather not purchase if the WEB product will work as well.

BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE, I ALSO USE A PARTS MATRIX IN THE PARTS DEPARTMENT. WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING THESE DAYS TO MAKE UP FOR THE LOSS DUE TO CUTTING PRICES ON MAINTENANCE REPAIRS. ADP DOES NOT HOWEVER USE A GRID IN SERVICE. HOWEVER YOU CAN SET UP MATRIX IN PARTS. WE HAVE A GRID PRICE SHEET AND THEN ADJUST LABOR SALE PER GRID PRICE SHEET. WOULD ALSO SUGGEST TO HAVE LABOR TYPES SET UP FOR MAINTENANCE/REPAIR/LUBE OIL AND FILTER. EAISER TO TRACK ON REPORTS.
