For five years, couldn't get above 1,700 e mail addresses no matter what incentive I did. Started Nitro-Fill (see other forum topic) and made it mandantory for Consultant to get e mail address to register for roadside assistance. We are at 90% email addresses now for vehicles sold. I could cry that we're not at 100% but compared to prior results, I'm estatic.

Just to interject here - autorevenue does have a great program with all the bells and whistles too. For a smaller store where cost is an issue I have built a system that allows you to collect email addresses and market to them each month. Provides CSI feedback and more being developed. I spent many years not having but about 1400 emails out of 24k customers in the ADP name-file (exluding A/P and employees). When the dealership retructured and my position was... well eliminated i started working on this. 4 months in the making now and ready to go. if your looking for a cost effective way to gather emails it might be worth your time to check out www.instacsi.com . i'll keep an eye on this forum and see if there is anything i might be able to help anyone with.

With ERA release 7.1, you can set the e-mail field to be required when adding a new customer.

You can do this by setting line 19 in 0922 to 'Y'.

This does not affect existing customers- if an existing customer is selected, the system does not require the entry of the e-mail.

I would be cautious in making it mandatory prompt in repair order write up, someone eluded to it ealier in this post, that you dont want your system filled with bogus email addresses, the problem with bad email addresses is that too many bounced emails will tag you as a spammer and then none of your emails will get through to your legitmate data base of emails.

We had advisors trying to get e-mail adresses, offered drawings, etc. Finaly I sat at the cashier counter and tried. Very little sucess myself. Then one day I had a customer ask me for my e-mail adress and I gave him my work one. He said "no your personal one. I want to send advertising to you also." Got me thinking. Maybe advertising as such is the wrong way to use it. Now we have the cashiers ask for it as a way to follow-up after their vist or a telephone #. We tell them we will only use it for this purpose and not for advertizing only. Has worked well. Have gotten more feedback than we ever did by telephone. Seems like people will type more than they speak and also can answer ewhen they want not as we call.By telling them it is not for advertising I have had people correct their e-mail adresses and has been a sucess at our store for follow-up and improving CSI scores. Figure at some point I will add a p.s. for a special and see what happens.

We use a product called www.MyCarPage.Com so you really have a reason to collect the customer's e-mail.
