Our fixed operations has generated nearly *four times* more net profit for the dealership than variable has.

Why, then, in a meeting to discuss "trimming the fat", every suggested cut back or cost saving measure involves service, parts, or body shop giving up something while new and used car sales departments are left entirely untouched ?

Car sales are less than half of normal yet a half dozen $8k-9k/month sales managers are a necessity while an $8.50/hour lot attendant ...expensed to the most profitable department in the store...is excess baggage?

What's up with that ?

No need to answer.

I feel better already. :-)

Cheers
DD

There is a new product out there called SnowShoveler. It is an add on to the current software you are running. It simulates any blizzard condition you set up and dispatches the proper (least paid) employee to work the job. It also attaches the part (shovel) to the work order along with any miscellaeous charges (beer, salt for the lot, frost bite salve etc). It's fairly inexpensive but it freezes alot.

We have 3 lot attendants to our 1 service porter. Our write up is split for PBG Hummer/Caddy, so our guy is sprinting back & forth to move/transfer cars for the advisors. The lot guys and sales management come to me for help in moving, washing, helping delivery check-in and the owner wants ME to control overtime on my guy. GO FIGURE!!
Charge it to FIXED, thats the way to do it!
