I have 23 lifts and want to be open from 7:30am to 6:30pm six days a week. So 23 lifts x 11hrs. per day = 253hrs per day x 6 days = 1518 hrs per week. Would this be right or am I calculating wrong.
Thanks, Mike

Well if you dont let your guys go to lunch that will be a 11hrs a day! If you can get 10 hrs a day per stall thats pretty dang good!

Klink,
Your stalls don't produce hours, your techs do. Calculate your hours based on 90% of your tech count. 90% because of vacation, school, illness etc....
Keep you shop in a state of vaccuum, 10% to many techs with a good sales process and you will be on your way.
If you need a four/ten schedule to set it up let me know.

That is your shop capacity as long as you include your flat stalls. It is, of course, different from your production capacity.

Ok so say I have ten techs @ 8hrs each per day x 90% = 72 hrs per day x 5.5 days(only half work on Sat.) = 396 hrs per week. Now My shop will support 1400 hrs plus per week. So if ten techs are worth 396 then I need about 35 techs to max out shop capacity. Now 700 RO's @ 2.0hrs = my 1400 hrs. I need. Divide that by 6 days = 117 RO's per day divided by 12 per advisor = 15 needed advisors. Now 1.5 stalls per tech x 35 techs = 52.5 stalls. I only have 25 stalls. Any techs or advisors need a job please call me!
DP can I get that four/ten schedule you have? Looks like im going to need it.
Thanks,Mike

Yeah Mike send me an email with the usual owner and use statements. But you should know its going to throw you for another loop......
Only two thirds of your guys work any given day so you effectively gain 50% additional stall capacity.....
I am going live with it the first full week in January. I have impemented it in a bunch of stores. Don't talk about it to early with your techs. Introduce it one week and implement the second. Less discussion less problems. Afterr they work it for a cycle you won't be able to take it away from them.
We are opening 7am to 7pm. Tech schedule 7am to 6pm with a one hour lunch.
I suggest you work Saturday as a full day.
Darin
P.S. the last store I did I had 34 techs in 32 stalls. So far I have had three people follow me here, but hey its only a 10 hour drive.....

We are currently open a full day on Sat. we just schedule half a crew and only do 1/4 the work. It is becoming a major contention with our dp. He thinks Sat. should be our busiest day. I think we should do a full days work or not be open at all. I am all for the four ten schedule idea. I have always been the the one that when the dp said to open a full day on Sat. to say why not Sunday too ? Always with the idea of a four on three off rotating sched.

Why not Sunday? I have to say I have always watched the aftermarket traffic on sunday, but never really considered the idea.
