Montanas, code 22, power sliding doors

Every GM dealer is experiencing large volumes of intermittant code 22's for the power sliding doors. There is a half dozen things to install, check, adjust, repair, etc. I do admit we are having good successes for fixing these codes. My question to all of you who have this product, what kinds of times are the technicians spending on these problems and what are you collecting from GM? There is no bulletin on it, but TAC has a list of items that seem to work. I am concerned about the about the amount of time the techs are taking. Mike

Sandman,
Judging from your post (and profile), one might assume you somehow have connections to TAC and the TSB process.

Can you offer insight into why "fixes" might go unpublished for such long periods of time? The legal aspect aside, it would seem that "nipping something in the bud" would save GM, as well as any other manufacturer, a bundle if dealers were notified of repair procedures as they're identified.

Vibration fixes on on the new trucks, for example, were initially released only on a "need to know basis." In the meantime, dealers spent countless hours (of straight time no doubt) swapping tires, running tests, etc. to isolate a problem with a known fix.

Please accept that I am not attacking you or GM, but would appreciate some insight into the logic.

We should not be holding TAC accountable for lack of distrubution of data or repairs. They do have a tough job. How many times do we get annoyed when a outside shop calls us at our dealerships for info on how to fix something. It can be hard. I think they have come a long way in the last 6 months or so. All in all, it is a fairly dedicated bunch of people. I use them predominatley to check to see if a item has a history of failures rather than trying to re-invent the wheel. The power sliding door is a great example of a positive approach to a specific problem. I cannot even imagine why it takes so long for GM to publish info. It may be related to potential purchasers. The press have been pretty brutal to the domestics. TAC does not have all the answers, but as in anything, you will get a better response and assistance with them if you have already done your homework and talk to them with knowledge and professionalism. I would not want them to go away. They have helped us many times. So if any TAC guys or gals are reading this, thanks for the help and keep growing.
