Wondering if anyone out there installs aftermarket remote start systems. OEM "Dodge" to much in parts costs. Sales can have one installed outside for 225.00
If you have a system your using with success I would be interested in picking your brain. Thanks

A couple of thoughts that I've seen successfully around me.

#1 - Sales should give the customer the choice and really sell the differences. The factory one is more expensive for a few reasons that might be worth the value to the customer. Show them the different FOBs, etc. and the costs, and they'll sell more OEM and aftermarket.

#2 - Some successful OEM installs I see are done on the lot, not as an upsell ... want the vehicle, then you're getting a remote start.

#3 - Dealerships certainly need to consider aftermarket options, but they can't have their $20/hour tech installing them either way. You just can't make any money at that. Look at the AM cost structure and then make an accessory department that can match it. If you don't have the volume to make that work, then don't try and get with a local installer to swing by the dealership to do the install.

The main problem with installing aftermarket, that I have run into is, later down the road the customer looses the key fob....Aftermarket company is out of bussiness what do you do now?The customer really should be told the diffrences,IMO

Just like the huge problems with conversion vans.

I agree with Rob on the sales dept selling the better unit even if the factory starter unit is priced so high. However, as we speak, Chrysler just sent out notices NOT to install any of their remote starter units due to a faulty hood switch. They also told the parts departments to MRA all of the remote inventory back to the factory. It took Chrysler forever to get in the remote starter business and now we are going need aftermarket kits again until Chrysler gets this corrected.

Wow, you guys even install the hood switch? Heck, at most shops in my area that is just another wire lead off the control box all curled up and wire tied.

Or at least that is what I did when I put one in my wife's Liberty. You think I should go back and hook it up?
