Homelink Systems

I recieved such good response to my last question I need an opinion of another.

Who programs Homelink systems for your customers, garage door opener, secuity gates, etc.?

Some of our sales people do their customers but we have a couple that put it off on the service dept.. I do not mind doing it once in awhile but it is time consuming driving to some of these customers homes and can't do it all the time.

I am thinking about charging the sales dept. for programming them.

I would charge the sales department. The homelink really should be the customer/sales person programming. I can't see sending a tech to a customers home for a non paying job when a salesperson could easily take care of the programming. I would inform the sales managers that they will be charged for this service starting now unless they take care of it themselves. I would also point out that several sales people know how to program the system and that they can use them to help the ones that don't know how.

I have been hearing some complaints that the homelink will not program to certain door opener companies and you need to purchase a adapter for about $150.00 and those with the cadillac line its being covered under warranty is any one else having problems like this and if yes has the adapter been covered under warranty

GM has info in the owners manual for the older door systems. You have to remove the back from the old transmitter and get the key numbers, then program the Homelink to it. I have done several, owners said it worked. Never left the service lane. It is under the HomeLink section of the owners manual & on DealerWorld.
