VSS or DCS dropping or both??

We have recieved all the messages about GM dropping VSS sometime this year. However, are they also dropping DCS?? R&R says they are at the same time. I think this might be just a sales pitch on R&R's part. I do believe DCS will be gone at some point, but the info just says VSS. R&R cannot tell us how their system will help with warranty down loads. What's the word out there??
thanks,
Mike

It's my understanding that viss will be gone by mid year and we are to use the new gmvis that is out there now and is very good. It has lots more info all in one site. I also understand that dcs will flip over to acess and our own systems like R&R or ADP will intigrate and we will not even notice a difference in the way we do our warranty claims. There is not a lot of clear information on the subject however if it is different than what I just described I would like to know.

The Administrative bulletin dated 3/30/00 for Northeast and southeast Ddealers states that the VISS over DCS will be shut down mid year. We have had alot of trouble geting onto the GMVIS site and was told that some areas can expect this through mid-
April.
We were transferred over last month from DCS to ACCESS within an hour. We haven't noticed anything different. We have ADP and we will have to continue to pay them for DCS accessiblity because they capture the files being received and transmitted through this function. The GM ACCESS folks say that if ADP DCS should go down this information is still available through in their files. If you use an internal network of pc's, as we do, this proves to be quite interesting as to how information comes from ACCESS.

We contacted GM Access today by phone. They told us Viss will be gone by April 17 (next week) and DCS will b gone by June of this year. I have read all the info all of you have read. that info specifically says Viss will go mid year. So if their own poeple are saying the above, who really knows?

Also R&R appears on the surface to be doing a sell job on us. We had 3 reps in a couple of weeks ago to plan some major equipment changes and to get ready for the future. They told us our warranty clerk needs a new PC supplied by them to be hooked up to GM access to process warranty claims. Last year we upgraded to have the main frame tied into the GM ACCESS system. As I understand it now, a standard terminal can be used for normal warranty processing and the connection between the main frame GM access. the only time a internet conenction is needed is to make a change to a document. What I have read, and observing my warranty person today, having her hooked up to GM ACCESS will make our system even slower, not to mention reliability concerns already existing and everyone is not even using it to its max. I think the best way is to go thru the internet. It is faster and more reliable than GM ACCESS. Does anyone disagree with this??

Our warranty clerk continues to use a "dumb terminal" or "Link terminal" with the R & R system. We add the warranty ops, labor times and print the RO's. Our warranty claims are sent after hours. We switched to access about one month ago. I did ask if a PC was required for our warranty clerk and was advised that we would not need a PC in that area. The system is working fine.

We have been using gmvis and access for a while now. The gmvis is much faster and easier with much more information available. The change over of dcs was completely painless and had no real effect on warranty submissions. The only noticable difference is the look of the credit memos.
