Ryan Insurance

As a consumer I purchased an extended warrantee through Automotive Warranty Services ( Ryan) from Ron Tonkin Accura in Portland Oregon. My 1996 Accura had a syncro problem in 3rd gear. I took the car to a Honda Dealer who removed the transmission and agreed the syncro was defective and should be replaced. Ryan Insurance denied the claim because the factory tires and wheels had been replaced with custom wheels. Although different the diameter, was exactly the same. I have argued with Ryan, the Honda Dealer has argued with Ryan and The Acura Dealer who sold me the contract has argued with Ryan. Both dealers agree that the tires had nothing to do with the syncro failure and cannot believe that Ryan would reject this claim. Ryan argues that their contract states that "The following are not covered under your agreement, For a breakdown caused by or involving non-original manufacturer equipment, components or systems This is the first and only time I have tried to use this warranty. I paid $1495.00 for the insurance and the repair is $800.00. It is their Platinum Service although I thinks Porcelain would be more appropriate. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? If this is the type of tactics that Ryan uses to cheat and defraud the consumer then I would suggest that all you dealers out there use a different after market warranty source.....Thanks. Alan Roth

Alan, I can certainly understand your problem here. but unfotunatly I don't have the solution right now. But I did want to post a reply. We used to sell Ryan Warranty but decided to stop. We have also started informing our customers with Ryan Warranty that they will be responsible for payment and would have to seek reimbursment from them. I have written off far too much $$ to be bothered with Ryan any longer. If you want more details feel free to email me.

Ryan in awful. We used to sell their contracts and dropped them. We now only sell manufacturer based plans. They are not about customer service - dealer or end consumer. We have written off a ton of $$ and our customers have also had the same expenses passed along to them if not purchased here. The worst part of this scenario is that all aftermarket warranty companies have been responding in a similar manner of late.

It may be worth your effort to pursue a refund of the balance on the warranty contract. Usually they will pro-rate it, and I don't know how long you have had it, so it might not get you muchmoney back.

As to Ryan, it doesn't surprise me, and I will add that we most likely are going to see more this kind of thing as the economy remains unstable. As a Service Director in Portland, I can tell you we have really gotten tighter in our handeling them. I don't care for any of them outside of the factory based ones.

Just my two cents worth, best of luck to you.
