I have 8 techs and we are open nights monday-thursday and saturdays. Day shift works 7:30-4:30 m-f, night shift 4:30-2:30 m-t and saturdays 9:00-4:00. all techs alternate saturdays 2 at a time and are paid a premium. 5 techs on days 3 techs on nights,10 lifts, 2 open bays, 1 front end rack.Anyone have similar situation with same amount of techs.Shop efficiancy 85% days 86%nights 114%sat. would like to increase that but need to lay off at this time to do so.Question is do you have a schedule that you think is better that works for you?

When we did the night shift thing, our first shift started at 6 am, going till 4 - then 4 to midnight. The two big problems we had, was customers did not care about the shift change - if my car is started on at 2, why doesnt night shift finish? And the quality techs dont have to do night shift - so we had alot of other shop rejects to work with. Good management took them from a bunch of "Bad News Bears" to some real good techs.
