does anyone have wash guys on commision type pay ?? looking for examples..

We did at a previous dealer I worked at. Our detail crew (1 or 2 guys) reconditioned the used vehicles. Many years ago they also cleaned every new vehicle off the truck after they were prepped. Anyway, they were paid by the flat rate hour, just like a tech. It seemed to work ok and everyone seemed happy. If they got into a used car that was real bad the used car manager was good at paying extra time.

We have 2 detailers for each of our stores, Toyota and Ford. They are paid strickly on flat rate. For each used car done they get 4 hours, if they "flat rate" and the used car manager is not happy they redo it for free. They get paid 3 hours to do a paint and fabric protection and anything else like buff out scratches, clean stains, etc is paid on time spent on the vehicle. It's not a big gross for service (about 50%) but it brings about $3000.00 per store to service's bottom line. They are paid at $8.50 per flat rate hour produced and I charge $8.00 in detail supplies to each repair order to covers those expenses. Details are billed at $80.00 to the sales department and $100.00 and up for customer pay. Total cost for a complete detail would be $34.00 in labor and about $6.00 in supplies for a total cost of $40.00 I think that anyone considering flat rate detailers should try it, you'll make money and you will get the cars on the lot faster.
