Transmission Chemical Flush

Transmission Chemical Flush

Postby TomB » Thu Jul 13, 2000 4:10 pm

I am a fixed operations consultant in Louisiana. I have recently been asked about
transmission flushing/fluid exchangers that are being pushed to dealers by chemical additive companies.

While all dealers are looking for new profit generating ideas, I am concerned about the safety of these products/services. A customer's goodwill is the most important asset that a dealer can have.

1. Has anyone had any experiences with these systems?
2. Were there any complaints or problems that lead to a claim against the supplier?
3. Any trouble getting any claims paid?

It is my understanding that some dealers are told that these "additives" are nothing more than what is already in the transmission fluid, only concentrated. I find it stange that all OEMs would not put this "extra amount" into their fluidif it was any good.

I have set up a seperate email under cajuncarguy@aol.com if you wish to reply to me directly

I can comment on the fluid exchanger however not the chemical issue. I have used exchangers and have found them to be safe and profitable. My hot button was that the in-line exchangers did not require dropping the pan, eliminating the potential for contamination and leaks. I did not use it for warranty.
Hope this helps

We have been using a trans flushing/exchanging system for some time and it works great. However, we do not use it for warranty claims, only as a upgrade to the service. To me, it never made sense to do a trans service and remove maybe 4-5 quarts out of 10-12 quarts in the system. We sell trans services 3 ways: filter only, flush only, and both. 95% of the trans services are flushes and filters. this is done through proper salesmanship and explaining the differences between the 3 services and the costs.

We have several fluid services using MOC products. We have been using these products for almost a year with no adverse situations. Flushing an auto trans system (Trans, converter and cooler) is the only proper way to completely remove the old fluid. We are a Nissan dealership in Houston, Texas. Several other Nissan stores in our market have similar programs, which are fully supported by our Nissan factory reps.

trans fluid exchange has work out well for our dealership. the cost of dropping pan and changing filters was just too much added bonus less mess in shop no comebacks for trans leaks.
