Hey Guys,
Could I get some feedback on how everyone is paying vacation pay to their techs? Are you paying a flat 8 hours per day, or maybe an amount based on an average for a previous period, like 3 months or 6 months? I appreciate your taking the time to let me know.

We calculated the average weeks pay at the end of each year by dividing their annual earnings less annual profit sharing bonus by 52. We paid this average during the next year for training and the first two weeks vacation. We capped the third week vacation at $600. Large GM dealership Washington DC metro.

We pay a flat 8 hours per vacation day, and pay the entire amount on the employee's anniversary date.
Techs get 2 weeks paid vacation until they been on board 10 years when they get a third week. After 10 years they get an extra day per year, yielding (a maximum of) 4 weeks vacation at 15 years

I PAY @ 8 HOURS PER DAY, SAME AS TRAINING PAY. IF A TECH STARTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR I PRORATE SO THAT EVERONE'S VACATION IS DUE BEGINNNING AT THE FIRST OF EVERY YEAR. THIS MAKES IT VERY EASY TO CONTROL WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT START DATES. I ALSO PAY THEM FOR ALL OF THEIR VACATION ON THE 2ND WEEK OF THE YEAR. BY DOING IT THIS WAY YOU WILL BE SURPRISED BY THE FACT THAT SOME OF THEM WON'T USE ALL OF THEIR VACATION DAYS.
