I was looking for a thread about payplans but did not see any recently.

Question about what the average pay-plan is for a service manager in a smaller import store. Percentange of Gross, Precentage of Net? What percent?

Base plus percentage? What is the "average" plan?

Thanks for your comments in advance!

10% of gross profit less controllable expenses in excess of NADA guide.

deduct the excess expense from the gross profit prior to calculating pay.

HarleyGrl;

What Brand/s do you sell at your Dealership? How many Staff Members do you manage? Techncians/Support? Are you net profitable? Are you earning 30% net to gross? Are you on a net pay plan or on a adjusted gross pay-plan? Are you Salaried with a bonus or commission? All of the things make a difference in pay structure for a Service Manager. How many years have you been a Service Manager? Please advise this Info and I can supply you with a Projection of pay.

Stand alone Mazda store

Currently on salary with CSI bonus (we just opened our doors about 6 weeks ago, start-up operation)

Been an advisor for 7+ years, manager for a year and half.

Looking at the #'s for this month, net to gross percentage is higher than 30%

Since we are just starting, I am doing it all right now, filing warranty claims, writing, managing the shop, about to hire 1 support person, part-time.

Service manager pay plans vary so much I don't think I've seen two alike.Your best bet is to negotiate a really good pay plan at first because as you can see it can be the same after a number of years no matter how well you do.They don't worry,they tend to look at your replacement as an upgrade.Owners always have the upper hand.There are a few out there that actually care about service managers but not many.

NCM 20 Groups say 7% to 9% of gross for supervisory salaries. What that translates for each manager depends on who is considered supervisory.

one thing you better keep in mind, you can negotiate whatever you want and you may get it, but if the dealership can't support it, you're looking at a short career. 6-8k per month may not be feasible. You didn't mention how many techs or advisors but you did say it was a small import store. My advise to you would be to accept a small salary and probably closer to the 9% of gross and consider the difference the cost of experience. You have only been a manager for less than two years.

NOT TO GET ON THE TAIL IN OF THE MULE, BUT WHAT IS THE AVERAGE PAY IN YOUR AREA. THAT WILL COME INTO PLAY AS WELL AND UNLESS YOU ARE GETTING AT LEAST 100K PER MONTH IN GROSS DON'T EXPECT BETWEEN 6K TO 8K IN PAY. LIKE THE OLD SAYING YOU GOT TO MAKE THEM MONEY FIRST BEFORE YOU GET YOUR'S.
