New car check in

Survey:

Who checks in new cars at your store? I'm not talking about pre delivery inspection. I am referring to checking them in when they come off the transporter (or, with night drops, who checks them in the next morning). Sales employee? Service employee? Either? Both ?

In the event damage is not caught or properly noted and the store has to "eat" the repair, does service eat it, or sales? Or, case-by-case ?

We consider this to be a service department function. What about the rest of you?

Cheers and thanks
DD

At our store service checks in new cars and it's done by our service valets (porters)
None have been missed over the past 12 months due to our continued pressure to have them checked in the right way !
In the past if we did miss any it was charged off to the store's policy (inventory maintenance account).

Either the new or used car prep guys do ours. If they can't the sales department does them. They generally catch all damage.
