We have been approached about becoming a AAA Approved Auto Repair facility and we were wondering what the forum's opinion of this program is?

I have experience with the AAA program.

You will grant a discount to AAA members and if you display the logo, you'll be amazed at how many members you service that don't have their card with them.

AAA will want access to your data base to "survey" customers about their experience. They will want to look at ROs and say easier to just go thru your computer.

I told them I would provide the information on a disk and that they could not look at non-AAA memeber data.

They pulled the program from my store.

I have dropped the program 2 times-pretty much for same reason, I did not see them bring any new business in, just made me 10 % discount to everyone and their mother who "didnt have their card but can call my wife if you dont believe me?" Not worth the 650 a year or whatever it is up to now. imho

We have been AAA for a while now.

Keep in mind that each state has their own program and they do vary in a number of ways.

Discounts are optional here...it's encouraged, but it is up to us.

The biggest increase that we get is towed in breakdowns...cars of all makes.

We provide them a customer list once a year for their review.

All in all, it is a good program for us...more than pays for itself.

Annual cost in Michigan is $500 ($250 if you are a member of ASA Michigan).

The benefits are easily worth it after just a few tow-ins off the highway.

As far as customer perceptions go, AAA is the only program of any kind in existence that I know of that makes any significant impact. Many consumers view AAA approval as the gold standard for businesses of all types. Many feel more confident as soon as they see the AAA signs and logos.

The other plus with AAA is there dispute resolution. If you have a customer that thinks you did something wrong and you cant convince otherwise. I have found it to be the easy way out. Much better then small claims. Not that I use it a lot.
