HI: Does anyone out there pay their parts manager and service manager off of the same pot? I am trying to tie my two guys together somehow and am coming up short of ideas. Also still looking for a 4/10 work schedule for 12 tech store. thanks!

Done this for years, only way to make the fixed department actually work together.
Pay off the fixed gross number. If you have an integrated body shop (not one in a separate facility/location) then include that manager. Why? Because the body shop generates service and parts gross too.
I do not suggest a pure commission based plan for managers. Much of what they do is people management, factory interface and other non-productive nonsense which is hard to evaluate in gross profit numbers (some employees are support anyway).
The numbers are always different.. but we pay a base salary plus commission off the total fixed gross then a bonus calculated from various goals: sales, CSI, expense control, etc. The last is the incentive for doing better.
And there is no reason not to have a 4/40 or 8/80 work week but you need management coverage at all times.
good luck and happy new year!

As far a 4/10 work week, with most service departments being open from 7-6 (or later) this ends up being a 10 hour day (including an hour lunch. Is anybody in fixed really working only a 40 hour work week? I think the long days and long hours kind of go with the territory of being in the car biz.

I have been using a 4/10 schedule for the last 8 years and it has worked great here.
I have 4 teams but I can also show you a schedule for 3 teams. Send me a email and I will get it to you. Mike
