In the following scenario what does the customer pay in your shop:
Customer brings in vehicle says window does not roll down when I hit the switch. SA says 1/2 hour diagnosis or $35. based on an hourly rate of $70. Turns out to be switch which is $50. and chilton time is 1.0 to change switch. In your shop is the final bill $120. or $155. I am just curious at this point.
Thanks,
Gerry

I would charge 155 unless the the time overlaps. You shouldn't charge twice to take the door panel off.

$155, unless the Chilton manual specifically says includes diag.

So Rob, in effect the shops that are charging 1.5 times warranty rate are actually charging closer to double because warranty time does't have diagnosis time, am I correct at that? I am not complaining just wanting to know how the game is played everywhere else.
Thanks,
Gerry

Depends on what manufacturers labor time standard you're using, because will say their time does include diagnosis. My observations are those using a mark-up of a factory time standard (i.e., warranty + 50%), are also charging a diagnosis fee.
