ADVISOR TO PARST COMMUNICATION

***ALSO POSTED ON PARTS FORUM***
Does anyone have any good ideas on how the advisor can communicate with the parts department in terms of checking stock on a product / getting prices etc. Currently in stores the advisor will call and ties up his phone doing so or leaves his workstation to do so but this leaves the drive through unattended.
we are an ADP user and thought parts requets may work but apparently its not worth it as the advisor would have to be signed on as a tech and assigned to a job and then could send....so that wont happen.
Guys , Gals any ideas that you use in your stores or would like to try.

I'm not fimilar with ADP and it's systems, I am on REY REY. I have SPG (Service Pricing Guide). This program gives my advisors the ability to look up the repair, parts availability, prices, labor, tax, suppiles, total. They can even attach this to the RO. It saves the phone, a parts person, makes the advisor more professional as they can look this up when they are talking to a customer on the phone "before" the customer gets to the store. It has been very helpful with the accuracy of the estimates. Takes a little effort on me to keep it clean, but the techs can use the same program, do estimates, print, go straight to the parts dept. We have it set up so the tech can "request a part" and the system will print it out in parts. Part is on the counter when he walks up.
Advisors like it because it is tied to the RO when they are in write-up also.
Been using it for about 9 years now.

before we had web suite with service pricing we did use parts reqs to do this, you can have your system admin add the ability to do parts reqs to the service advisors profile in functino UUP. Using an instant messenger would work great, however in my opinion i found that they were used for far too much other stuff. we packet sniffed the network one day and found all sorts of interesting conversations going on. consequently all dealer owned computers had messaging programs removed. just my two cents
