Brake cleaner

We use aerosol cans of brake cleaner now but are considering changing over to 55 gallon drums of Non-chlorinated brake cleaner and using refillable spray bottles. Looking for information from those that use the bulk cleaner and bottles. What kind of savings are you achieving? Do you have any recommendations on which products work best?
Thanks to all who respond!

We tried the bulk route and it was just too much of a nuisance...at least at our shop.

Today we treat cans of brake clean just like any other part...place them on the RO and mark them up like any other part. This solved the issue for us.

been using ZEp bulk for last 6 years. Used to be a shop supply now gets charged out from parts. it is automatically attached to brake jobs, brake clean/adjust and any major engine work. it works for us.

We use aerosol cans. We also treat them as a part. It gets charged out on a RO or a shop ticket. After figuring price per ounce; we are saving more by using cans. We had 2 new techs that came from shops that used bulk. They now prefer to use cans, less hassle and they use less. We had a supplier that tried to switch us over; they even supplied us with 4 new sprayers. we bought 2-5 gallon pails of brake cleaner and everyone in the shop got to try it and have a voice in the choice. Out of 16 techs only 1 wanted to use the bulk product. We measured our usage and found that we were using less with the cans over bulk. That's when the 2 techs that used bulk before switched to cans. I know that this isn't a "green" process but it works the best and economically for us.

Coming from parts side of things, we also use cans billed out as a part on the repair order. We looked at going bulk cost savings not that great and control of product possible issue.

We tried bulk. Its messy, hard to control, and doesn't work as good as aerosol.

Our Wurth rep stopped in one day with a refillable demo can setup. We tried it and the techs like it. Every tech now has a can. The refiller hooks up to an air line and a bulk tank of brake clean. You just press the bottom of the can down for 7 seconds and it fills it with compressed air and fluid. Lasts a pretty decent time too-filling a can on average of once every few days depending on how much spraying they do. No issues yet and we've had it for a year. Quite a cost savings buying in bulk and better for the enviroment with less waste cans. We are a small shop (4 techs). FYI

We have been on bulk for over 10 years. The techs are fine with it once they get used to it. We bill out on every brake job and I am usally over. And it is alot cheaper and better for the enviroment.
