I would like to let you know about an important new diagnostic tool on the market. AutoDiag by DiagTek is an add-on to the Palm handheld computer. It allows a technician to request and clear codes as well as request self-tests to be run. But here's the important part, unlike other low-cost tools on the market, this tool works on more than just the engine/emissions. Well, I know everyone expects me to jump in, kill this post and restate our NO ADVERTISING policy, but for now I am going to let it stand.

Why you ask? As I've said in the past, I am more apt to allow product plugs when the person doing it clearly identifies themselves as such.

Second, I've lately become intrigued by the various Palm based OBDII readers. Being a geek and wannabe hack, the ability to tap and generally corrupt the automotive network has been something that I've been wanting to work with.

If you haven't seen these tools and what they can do, both professionally and hobby-wise, I encourage you to check them out. The young hotshot gearheads of today are doing some wild things by programming the various networked systems in vehicles. These will be our drivability techs of the future - why pay all the bucks for an NGS, when a Palm kit can do nearly the same.

And, f the right to information laws pass that make all the OBDII networks open to outside concerns, this market is going to explode.

I agree with your philosophy--the more high tech information, the better the forum will be. However, I would suggest removing any information that would make the message into an advertisement for a "Sales Lead". So in that post, remove the individual's e-mail/contact address so as he cannot generate commissions. Otherwise, your going to find salespeople selling their goods rather than providing information. There are several companies that offer Palm based diagnostic equipment these days.
