I need some Ideas on how to pay helpers. We are very active in the GM ASEP program and I would like the technicians to participate in the students pay.

I always paired up nu-bees with techs that have a knack for training and pay that tech a hour or dollar percentage of what your trainee produces.

This really depends on the apprentices ability. I have two students in the shop as we speak. The first one is an AYES student and his mentor is paid any flat rate hours the student earns. This student is graduating this week and will move into the ASEP program, and his pay will be reevaluated then. The second student started as an ASEP tech and he started with the same pay plan with a mentor, but he quickly moved out into his own stall and is paid and hourly pay plus a commission on the hours he turns in. Next semester the 2nd student will move to a flat rate with a minimum weekly pay.

We use a plan for apprentice techs where we team them with a trainer technician. We pay the apprentice hourly and the trainer gets paid his regular pay for all hours flagged by the apprentice. After 90 days, the trainer then pays 2.00 per hour of the apprentice pay. After the next 90 days, then 4.00, after the next 90 days, 6.00, after the next 90 days the trainer pays all of the apprentice hourly pay until he is ready to move out of the apprentice program and start flagging his own hours.
