When you have a tech diagnose a warranty item and a part has to be ordered how do you pay the tech. Do you pay him his diagnosis time he has flagged now, or when the repair is completed?

There is a little grey area in the answer, but basically - you only pay when the car is fixed-the manufacturer does not pay to diagnosis cars , they pay to fix cars.

They only get paid when the operation is complete and then only if their story references previous RO with appropriate time punches.

We pay when the part is replaced and simply hold the work order open if it is a matter of days. If there is CP on the order or it will be more than a week we enter an appointment pre-assigned to the tech that diagnosed it and enter the diag time in comments. If that tech is not there the day the part is replaced he still gats paid the diag on the second RO provided the problem is fixed.

Holding the ticket open till the ordered part and then the customer comes in does wonders for the Fixed First Visit score on warranty repairs.
