ADP/R&R/ GM ACCESS/DCS

Postby John Moore » Tue Sep 14, 1999 6:01 pm

I have recently been informed that GM is turning DCS off entirely 1/1/00. While they have been saying they would do so, they failed to mention what the cost to dealers would be to be able to convert to ACCESS for all applications currently on DCS. My ADP rep just informed us that we would need a $5000 piece of hardware and $200/mo maintenance fee to effect our conversion from DCS to ACCESS. My rep further stated that this was not unique to ADP, but that all DSP's have the same problem....and the same solution. Anyone else here this?

ADP/R&R/ GM ACCESS/DCS

We found out from an admin message from GM. We called ADP and asked them to give us an estimate to convert DCS to Access. The price was $12000 !!! (We have one of the older ADP systems and would have had to add some interface boards along with the software.)
We also found out we could get a new system from ADP that was an NT system (using our existing PC workstations) that would save us a little money from what we already pay them now and be GM Access compliant!
Since we know GM Access is going to be around for awhile we decided a PC NT system would be the way to go for the next five years. GM is rumored to have plans to replace the Access server. (I feel this is way overdue being as there is not enough disk space on those Compaq units for even ESI let alone any of the new stuff GM is loading.)
I wish GM had given us a little more warning time.
