Well as per administrative message DCS shutdown has been extended once again. This message came out on 20JUN00 from DBC due to dealers not having enough access to the new GMVIS. There is no new date at this time...

DCS SHUTDOWN EXTENDED AGAIN

Postby RICHLOWE » Fri Jun 23, 2000 10:39 am

KINDA FUNNY HOW GM INFERRED THAT THE DELAY IS DUE TO DEALERS NOT BEING ADEQUATELY PREPARED FOR THE SHUTDOWN.

I GUESS THE SHARING OF INFORMATION IS BAD AND TRAINING IS SOMETHING THAT OCCURS BY OSMOSIS AND DEALERS ARE MADE OF MONEY.

SOMEBODY AT GM NEEDS TO TAKE THERE SYSTEMS DEPARTMENT BY THE HORNS AND MAKE SENSE OF IT. THE LEFT HAND IS NOT TALKING TO THE RIGHT.

MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS THE ADP/REYNOLDS SYSTEM NOT YET BEING ABLE TO TALK TO THE E-CLAIM SYSTEM FOR THE PURPOSE OF WARRANTY. EVEN IN MY SMALL STORE THAT REPRESENTS ALOT OF EXTRA TIME RE-KEYING WARRANTY INFO.

ANYONE FOUND A WORK-AROUND YET?

The new GMVIS is outstanding; as long as it is working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our dealership spent considerable money networking all of our computers and adding 9 PCs to our service department. WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO TO TI USE THE NEW GMVISS WHEN IT IS DOWN SO MUCH?????
It is very annoying to get our dealerhsip into the 21st century and gm is still messing with their computer systems to keep us back into the 20th century. MOST FUSTRATING

DCS SHUTDOWN EXTENDED AGAIN

At the most recent GM DSP meeting, my company became very concerned over the proposed shut down of DCS. Specifically we were concerned over the issue of dealer preparedness. From our perspective, with the recent inclusion of VISS into the shut down, we were concerned that many dealers would lose critical functionality from key areas such as service drives and technician bays. We discussed at length that GM needed to understand that the solution was not as easy as telling dealers to purchase PC's. Dealers would be faced with potential re-cabling issues to move to TCP/IP, desktop systems administration issues, and not to be forgotten, training issues for those employees not use to operating a PC.

I for one am glad to see that GM decided to delay the shut down, even though I know this put many GM employees in an uncomfortable position after stating so strongly that July 3rd was the date.

I am confident GM is using this time to ensure their business systems are up-to-speed to support the migration, yet I wonder how many dealers are taking this time to ready their facilities for the eventual shut down of DCS?

Gm has put a lot of money and time into E business. But it seems to me they alsways have a difficult time getting it right at the right time. GMVISS works great, but it has been malfunvtioning multiple times in the last several weeks. GM has been talking about having a internet sight to type in a VIN and get the correct and updated rebates. But they are running late again. Ford has had the system for some time. GM says they will have a internet sight to order a car and within 3 days it will be made and delivered. I believe it will snow in the Mohave desert before this will happen. I am not trying to slam GM, but can anyone tell me a high tech system GM has introduced on time and meeting expectations?? Look at the lack of success with Onstar and the huge prfits they waid they would have. So far, Onstar is a "ho-hum" system and I doubt GM is making a dime on it now. Is Distance Learning up to par?? Its not a new system yet it still is not. How long has GM said they are going to shut down DCS and it has not happened? Once up and running, there systems work pretty good. i just do noty understand why it takes GM longer and cost more money to do things other dealers have been doing for years.

I know many dealers did not take GM seriously about DCS shutdown. But DCS is not shutting down altogether. Parts will still need it. Does this make sens to anyone? I would like GM to do things that will save us money and not cost us additional. Look at GM Access; the servers were outdated within a year
The internet is the way to go for all kinds of things. GM just needs to think it out better and get it done on time
