Flush spiffs

In regards to a question from a few months back - would you allow a flush vendor to directly spiff your advisors or techs? 67% of managers said yes as part of poll we did on flushes.

No, that's wrong. The question was worded to make you answer if you currently had a vendor that spiffed, not if you thought it was something that needed to be allowed. I'm a Parts Manager, and I answered that we spiffed (since then we have told the vendor that we don't allow vendors to spiff our employee's, and it's been stopped.

Would you allow an outside company to provide sales spiffs to either your advisors or technicians?

I am not saying I agree with the results - I would have thought more would have objected.

I agree with 69Mach1 - Reduce the spiff amount off the cost of the product and if you need to spiff handle within the dealership.
Personally I don't like spiffing on flushes or anything else as it can promote overselling whatever the spiff is on.
Several years ago I stopped a spiff program and saw a 30% drop in flushes which tells me the flushes were being sold for the spiff and not because the car needed it !!
Spiffs can create unethical practices so I choose to not have them, just my point of view.

We have that problem now. I am a PM. My writers and techs get spiffed to do everything. If we take it away they wont sell any parts. I don't get it. Don't they get a salary. I hate the whole spiff thing. Plus it coming from my gross. We spiffed our techs 5$ for batteries and 2 tires. we went from 10 batteries a week to 35 tires doubled. Now accounting got a hold of it and said no more. So now back down to where I was. So my questions is were these fake sales to get the money or did the techs just look at the batteries and tires to sell them? Cause if they aren't looking now they should be fired.

just my opion. spiffs are bad for business.

Human nature dictates that items will be sold if there is an incentive. We have used the spiff program here for at least 15 years with absolutely no problem. Like any other program, it needs monitored and managed.

In the world we live in money drives the train. However spiifs are just wrong. Why should a man get paid extra to perform what he is already paid for? Is it incentive, or bribery or just the beginning to other unethical pratices.
Next my counterpeople will want to be spiffed for having to pull the parts they sell.

We spiff for the mundane items that aren't really thought of that much, like cabin air filters and wiper inserts. Those items are installed with no labor and they usually are overlooked. The guys here are paid $1.00 if they are sold.

i allow a vendor to spiff the techs for "caps" only. it's a very small amount, so i don't worry too much about it.
