does anyone know if their is a standard when it comes to maint menus as to labor rate i.e if your door rate is 105. when you build the menu for maint should you use a less rate or the same? and if it is less is their a percentage..i know the question is broad because somemuch else factors in according to what you are trying to reach, the question came up yesterday in a meeting and one person said why should maint be less so i was just seeing if anyone else is seeing this

Your maintenance prices should be driven by your immediate market area prices. It should have nothing to do with your door rate.

maintenance labor pricing is also called "competetive" labor pricing for that reason. your market helps to dictate that.

Who are you competing with? Other dealers like yourself, independents, or both.

I think most customers know there going to pay a little more when they come to the dealer. Over the past few years our industry has tried to sell price and not what we really have to offer. (specialized tools, factory trained techs, loaner cars...ect)

If you go above and beyond what the customer expects price is rarely and issue! I agree you should be competive, but you dont have to be the cheapest around. Alot of the independents in our area charge a lesser labor rate, but charge more labor hours for the repair! We price shop all the time and actually find them to be higher in a lot of instances!
