Paid Time Off

Paid Time Off

Postby ssd » Tue Sep 27, 2005 1:01 pm

What do most of you feel is fair to offer as paid time off? We offer 12 days after two years which encompasses vacation/sick/personal/bereavement/etc. and our GM feels that is industry average. I feel we could enhance our compensation package by allowing longer tenure employees to earn more time. What is average in this industry?

Thanks.

Paid Time Off

Ours is:
1YR 40 HOURS
2 YRS 80 HOURS
5 YRS 120 HOURS
Been here 13 and for the last 5 or 6 I have been unable to take all of my 120 hours in a calendar year.Rolls/paid out
Managers (salaried)get 6 unplanned sick days a year before dipping in to vacation.

I think 120 may be to much, but it is nice to have in case of an emergency.

here is a good one im sure everyone has seen!

So you want a day off?

So you want a day off. Let's take a look at what you are asking for.

There are 365 days per year available for work.

There are 52 weeks per year in which you already have 2 days off per week, leaving 261 days available for work.

Since you spend 16 hours each day away fron work, you have used up 170 days, leaving only 91 days available.

You spend 30 minutes each day on coffee break which counts for 23 days each year, leaving only 68 days available.

With a 1 hour lunch each day, you used up another 46 days, leaving only 22 days available for work.

You normally spend 2 days per year on sick leave.

This leaves you only 20 days per year available for work.

We are off 5 holidays per year, so your available working time is down to 15 days.

We generously give 14 days vacation per year which leaves only 1 day available for work.

There's no way I'll let you take that day off!

1 year = 1 week (5 days)
2 years = 2 weeks (10 days)
20 years = 3 weeks (15 days)

I personally think that the 20 years should be lowered. Also, if you are a Manager in the company it should be mandatory to take 2 weeks at one time; when you take time off it takes literally days before you unwind enough to forget about work and be able to return fresh and re-energized.

Back in March, Essential Office Manager had a cover story about this topic. The upshot was that while most Office Managers wanted to see their dealership expand or at least make their policy more flexible, they were getting resistance from Owners and GMs. If you've had any luck getting your own policy changed, please share your advice! You can email me on background at jmcauseyj@aol.com, or give everyone on this forum the benefit of your knowledge by responding directly to this post. Thanks again, Michael Causey
