A really great tool at the counter is "SDL".

How many of you use it and for what purposes?

It is a dealer list. Say with part "a" you normally sell parts "b" and "c" as well. Instead of typing all 3 part numbers you can set a list by a "code" word or partial part number or whatever you want. We sell a certain temp sensor quite often. Along with that is a seal and clip. The part number of the sensor is 059 919 501 A. So we set the list as 059. When that is typed in, all 3 part numbers come up. All you have to do is verify quantity by hitting enter 3 times. There are multiple options for setting this up. We also use this for recall parts. We just use the recall name as the list name. When we type that into a part number prompt, the recall parts come up and we just sell what is needed. Saves keystrokes and memorizing part numbers. We have enough to keep in mind already. I can go more indepth over a phone call if you wish. Hope this helps!

We use it for tires and such. Say you type in 2656016 which is the tire size, it shows all the tires we stock in size 265/60/16. We use it for recalls, if you type in 09047 it brings up the numbers for the wire loom retainers. Stuff like that is what we use Setup Dealer Lists (SDL) for.

SDL works well. The premise of SDL was originally for multiple supercessions but it can be used for other things like this. Also, you can set up permanent quotes and select parts numbers from the lists. There are also several "procs" that can be written to do the same thing.

We use quotes as well but you need to remember that the prices, bin locations, etc.....do not update in quotes unless you run UPQ. And when looking at the quotes, the display info is a "snapshot" of when he quote was made. Onhand and other info may have changed.

All of the information in SDL will update when price updates are run, correct? I just discovered SDL after reading about it here and it's a miracle worker for some of our menus. My other question is whether or not you can cause it to override the price on something. Say you have an oil filter that needs to be billed at a certain price but the menu part number bills it at it's regular price. Can I make it bill it at the menu price?
