Tires for life?

We are in the planning stages right now to compliment our free oil change program with tires for life. The way we were thinking about this is that in order to quailify the customer will have to perform all maintenance services (every 5K Miles) with us or no free tires. Not sure at this time how much each car will have to be packed at this time but should be no more than $50 each. Our free oil change program currently gets about 40% of them doing the maintenance service along with free lof. If we can increase that number to 60% + we will easily cover any costs associated with the replacement of tires. Regular wheel balances and alignments when needed based on wear will also be the customers responsibility. We will have our lawyers review to see what needs to be stated to be legal. We believe this will help us even more in customer retention. Hope this helps a little.

Tires for life really gained momentum in the South East over the last 12 months. There are of our several dealers that are offering it to the customers right now. It is NOT a 100% you must do all maintenance or you don't qualify. The customers are encourage to perform all of the maintenance but if they don't...you have the option of sharing the cost with the customers. Regular rotate and rotate and balance is a MUST. Along with Four wheel alignment. There are also considerations for adding Road Hazard at the time of sale. Another plus is the ability to 'bump' the customer to a better class of tire. In essence you are replacing tires with a 'good' quality replacement. You can offer a 'better' and a 'best'. We have had tremendous success with this program. Contact me if I can be of any assistance.

We are in our sixteenth month. We have given away three sets of tires thus far.
our plan is similar to Rotnjonny's.
Our group does not pack the customer. We pay off our gross. Sales $25 Service $15 and Parts $10. There are some details that I would like our group to change, but overall, I think it is a good program.
Many of our customers are part time residents. so we are a little loose on "all" services. The replacement tires we use are in our better range. The customer pays for mounting and balance($15 per tire) and state tire disposal fee. TFL pays our full list price on the tires.

Tires for life?

Postby robc » Wed May 21, 2003 11:39 am

Does anyone have a "disclosure form" they provide the customer that they can share. I am looking for something that outlines the exact conditions (do every maintenance, what schedule, dealer requirements), replacement limits (tread at 2/32, 3/32?), and exclusions (road damage, uneven wear)

I am hoping to format a generic formula for dealer to base their own program on.

Rob, I have a certificate that I make available to my dealer clients free of charge and would share with any dealer that has an interest in setting a Free Tires For Life program up. For a copy email Paladen@Paladenonline.com and in the subject use Free Tires For Life.

The certificate is double sided and states the conditions on the back. We went a step farther when we set up this document and state that the customer must present the original at time of service to remain enrolled in the program. This then becomes part of the record and is recorded under a memo field by the Service Advisor.
