What has been stolen at your store???

Had a rash of car thefts one year, one brutal example a brand new Ram Air Trans Am they rammed thru the fence, joy rode for a night then parked in the woods, packed full of wood and burned to the ground. Another good one was they stole our old beater '86 S-15 pressure washer lot truck and it broke down about 20 miles away!

What has been stolen at your store???

Dealership has a warehouse a block away. A few years ago, we noted that the sliding door in an alley had been broken into. Tires and engine were missing. Reworked the door so it was more secure. A couple months later. Went to get some tires that we were going to mount up. These tire were not there. Since we had taken inventory a few weeks earlier, I retook the inventory, and we were missing about 20 tires. Called the cops and started investigating. A window had been broken, and they crawled thru the window and unlocked the sliding door from the inside. When the DP was there, one of the cops noted a lone spare tire, and asked what that was off of. All of a sudden it turned on a light in the boss's brain. "My Chevelle" They had stolen the dealer's early 70's big block Chevelle. It was a numbers matching, have all the paperwork unit, which has yet to be found. Needless to say this warehouse has finally gotten repaired, and not everyone has access to the keys any more.

The entire front clip off of a new Geo Tracker.....yes....Hood, both fenders, headlamps, condenser, radiator, headlights, bumper cover (all of the bumper actually, including the rebar). A few days later the cops pulled over a kid in a two-tone Tracker... the hood or something had the VIN # from our vehicle. Seems he had a little encounter with a deer while drinking, and his dad refused to attempt an insurance claim.

We too had our fair share of pick up tail gates and truck spare tire thefts over the years. Back in the early eighties our B-van doors were back ordered and we had a rash of van thefts and later recovered sans doors. I remember in 1985 we had all four aluminum wheels and tires stolen off of a Dodge 600 with the vehicle left up on blocks, funny thing is that sitting 2 cars over was another Dodge 600 that a salesman left the keys in the ignition and the motor running all night long and yet the thieves never touched it!

What has been stolen at your store???

Aside from what others have said, we have some digital photo frames we use to highlight some of our products and promotions--and someone took the memory card out of my parts department frame.

As an aside, at one time I had an inventory guy who worked from 11am until 8pm. Department closes at 6pm. Well one night my inventory guy had to leave early, and I instructed him to tell our closing parts advisor that he needed to make sure everything was secure and the alarm was set. Of course, he forgot. Closing parts advisor really wanted to get out ASAP to watch the football game. He shut his computer down and then just left. Back receiving door was open all night long. As best we could tell, we weren't missing anything, but you can be sure that I spent the next couple of days doing write-ups.

We had someone walk in off the street and take a computer off the parts retail counter and walk out the front door during evening hours. One of our salesman held the door open for him while watching him carry it out. When the parts manager came in the next morning his jaw hit the floor when he noticed the computer missing. Out of five salesmen who seen the guy, none asked him who he was or why he was taking the computer.

What has been stolen at your store???

We were in an open shop (no bay doors) came in one morning to find many of the techs tool boxes broken into. Pulled tape from the night before and watched two guys take our hand truck, empty out a trash can and procede to load the tools into the trash can, we then watched them take them to the front of the store, at this point the security company came by to see what the alarm was about, found nothing and left, the 2 guys then loaded their truck and drove off.

3 weeks later after tech get brand new tools they come back and do the exact same thing.

by this time police know who they are but can't find them .

oh by the way we were the 5th store to have this happen to all around the same time.

Now 3 weeks later again security company comes buy and notices their truck again at our store and calls police.

the 2 guys hear the sirens and walk over to an all-night gas station to watch but end up getting caught. turns out it is a father and son team. father goes back to jail for parole violation, son gets let go because the video tape is too grainy and wasn't on our property. yet clear enough to identify

never found the tools

What has been stolen at your store???

We had a massive "Genuine Hyundai Accessories" display case stolen from the building when we first moved in. This case is the most awkward, ugly thing ever and for someone to just drag it out and load it up with no one noticing blows my mind. This was in my first week at the place and before the camera system was installed.

Also had a guy stealing flashlights from a promotion.

Had the police call me about 1:45 am. Said I should come down, looks like we had an attempted vehicle theft. I arrived and upon pulling around onto the sidestreet, the police officer switched on his spotlights. I couldn't stop laughing.
Hanging on the top of our 7 foot security fence was a new Suzuki Samurai, dangling by the front spring shackles. They had left keys in the vehicle it seemed and the thief thought he would drive it over the fence by running up two 2x8 boards. Not sure the would be thief had thought things all the way thru. Wished I had could have seen his face when the boards broke... was suprised I didn't find some DNA evidence in the drivers seat when I opened the door.

guess that would be "almost stolen"
