Techs' gloves...

do you guys/gals charge your techs for their gloves? If not for anything else so they don't take them at will?

About 4 years ago we used to just give them out and we would go through a case or more in a week. Then we started spliting the cost with the tech and that cut are usage be 2/3rd's. About a year ago the new service manager made another change and the techs now pay for thier own gloves. This has saved us a bunch.

My techs can use as many gloves as they like. I don't care.

Since they all started wearing gloves the complaints of greasy handprints on customers' cars has dropped to almost zero.

What next? Charge them for the paper floor mats they use, too ?

WE GIVE OUR TECHS 30.00 PER MONTH FOR SHOP SUPPLIES GLOVES BRAKE CLEAN ETC IF THEY DONT USE THE 30.00 ALLOTED THEY GET THE MONEY. WE WENT FROM HANDING OUT 5-6 CASES OF BREAK CLEAN A DAY TO ONE A WEEK

OSHA regulation states:

1910.132(a)

Application. Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact.


Bottom line is stop being tight a$$es and supply the gloves. They are a lot cheaper than fines or Workman Comp claims.

We supply gloves and safety glasses at no charge to the techs.
