Technician Parts Earned in Pay Plan

Good afternoon everybody the Team here at the dealerships are looking at a new type of earned in pay-plan for the technicians. The purpose of the plan is to increase basis technician production and give them a little bonus on the parts sales. The idea in parts is to have them recommend more of the needed items that they have tendency to overlook or forget. Has anyone out there tried any type of a earned in payplan based on production bust bonus on parts sales. If you have please advise. Thanks as always for the information.

Be VERY CAREFUL if you choose to proceed with this type of a pay plan. I have seen this in a couple of dealerships and in both cases techs tended to start overselling and trying to recommend way too much that is not really needed. One store actually had their parts sales go backwards because almost every upsell became a huge laundry list and made it difficult to sell even the items that were truly needed.

If technicians are failing to see and recommend NEEDED maintenance items, then maybe they are not being held to a high enough standard. I have a problem with giving people an additional reward to do something that should be a basic requirement of their job in the first place.
