Sunday service

Unless your dealership is also a truck stop, I would be very skeptical of Sunday hours.

If there was a determination to extend hours, I would look more at evenings or even 24 hours, depending on your location.

In certain areas customers would take advantage of being able to have service performed when they are not using their car during the normal work day. It would be nice to drop off a car after 5pm for a timing belt and pick it up at 7am to go to work the next day.

Sunday service

I have been thinking of being open on Sundays to do all of our catch up work like PDI's ect. I would love it and go to a 4 on 3 off rotating schedule.

Well put.

How often are new car (and used car) inspections and PDI "rushed" because 1) Car sold, must deliver NOW or 2) Shop busy but must keep up on the PDIs ?

Perhaps a weekend day could be used to do the appropriate job and allow the tech(s) to have a week day off.

Have to think about this, please post any results of changes you try.

Scary subject. I have worked for retail outfits thru the years , always open Sunday.
Some metro areas worked very well, always busy. Still seems to be a defining point between city or country. Have watched local dealers try Sunday hours for service. All have failed miserably in smaller areas. Customers still want small town atmosphere and Sundays seem to be off limits for dealers. Our 'area' approx. 90000 plus

We tried the Sunday deal for about 2 years. Had one dedicated service writer and tech plus a rotating tech. What we found out was that the writer was just moving work from the normal weekday to Sunday because they were there. When we closed Sunday we had no affect on business and I agree getting your employees to work Sunday was a tough sell.

Seems as though I should have knocked on wood.
We will be back to 7-7-7 in a few weeks.
