I mentioned a few post ago that our owners were talking of selling our 5 franchizes to the Chevy dealer...well they did. The owners of the 2 Chevy stores murged their 2 stores and will put our Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Hummer and Cadillac lines in their other Chevy store. They had two crews of personnel and guess what!!! most of our management team is now offered "assistant manager" positions.. I was offered Asst Manager of Service...Service advisor.. Took a 60% cut in pay.. Took the job pending....
Don't have to worry until sometimes in January, but will test the waters in the area to see if something else is out there. I will still be here till then.

Sorry to here about your job, but you are in good company. I am about to lose my job after the dealership closes after the first of the year. I have 25 years in the service department 15 as the service manager. Not sure if I will stay in the business or not, trying to complete college now, and have finals next week. I have my certification as GM service manager, and controller. I took the controller course for self-improvement, so I could read the complete financial statement intelligently. My department stayed in the top 15 in CSI every year, and training is currently over 100%.

Not sure if I will stay in the business, but this is really in my blood.

svrmgr: It has become a cynical job. No appreciation for what we do, just throw us out with no regrets. Well I will survive. The people that bought us out has demoted all managers to assistants. The GM is the only one that kept his position. I'm thinking about going for a consultant position with a Consulting Company or possibly getting in with the state. Good retirements. I have 37 years in the business, of which 30 years as a service manager/fixed ops manager. Most with GM. Empowered in the south central zone and the south east zone.

I feel your pain
I have been in parts for 27yrs ,12 as manager. The last store I worked at (4+ yrs)was bought out by a dealer in the next town over. They fired the nc,uc,sales managers right out of the gate.Kept the office manager for 4 months and the F&I manager for 6 months.I was the last manager left from the old company.I lasted 1yr 3mo just enough time for them to pick my brain and the workings of a GM parts dept (they were an import store only before). They brought over a counterperson from their import store to take my place as manager. He has since been moved to their coll.center. The service manager that was there when I was let go is now the parts manager. I talked to him a few weeks ago ,he is not happy with the current change. I had to accept a parts manager job in a much smaller store and a 40% pay cut, that is now very progressive (been this way for 20yrs why change it )attitude. I keep looking and sending my resume out.

Tom,
Sorry to hear about your situation now.
You know I need a good fishing partner
this summer. I still have a great boat,
although not as clean as you kept it.
Come see us.

GMFXDOPSMGR: dont get me wrong I am not mad. I am just wondering if there isnt something else out there like most people. I have friends that are working at their 3rd and 4th law or accounting firm, seems the only way to look at a job now is to see what is in it for me. I am going to send the resume out and see what comes of it, and hope for the best. It is sad to see the attitude of the work place change since I started in the early 80s, but it has and life goes on.

Thanks for the thoughts

I told ya'll that I was offered a job with the company that bought us out, the Friday before Christmas, the new owner decided that he was not going to have that position and retracted his job offer. Now I am looking for a job here, Ala, Miss, Ga, La. Maybe someone will appreciate the 32 years of GM experience that is available. If not, another manufacture will.
We will close by the end of the month.
Talk to you on the threads Monday!!
Have a great weekend!
