Scan It Parts for recieving

Howdy,
I was wondering if anyone is using the Scan It Parts scanner for receiving parts. Our Parts Manager is very interested, and I was just going to see if there is any good or bad feedback.

I know that Nash in Georgia has been using this product (offered either by GM Dealer Equipment or directly from IPS) for sometime now. Fell free to contact Mark Peek at Nash at 770-963-9266.

This product is integrated to EDS' DMS (along with R+R and ADP), and allows for scanning of parts barcoding as well as vehicles (recently released).

Matt,
Tony went ahead and ordered the scanIt Parts. Funny... I am working on setting it up right now. Anyway your response mentioned that ScanIt now works with our vehicle inventory. I had noticed on their website that the had it for ADP & R&R, but as of last week there was no mention of EDS. Can you verify that this is up and running, or is it in ALPHA/BETA stages?

Jason, Duane who is coming out to install the system is the gentlemen to ask this question to. I understand he is in route to your store at this time.

Jason, can you provide an update on how your install went? What does your team think of this offering?

Matt,
Yes I can give you a quick and dirty on the install. Everything is working good for us since we started using the Scan-It Parts. We are working with Duane and Dale on some problems with the support software and firewall/proxy servers, but other then that life is good. The person recieving parts likes it so much, if we told him we were going to take it away, I honestly think he would cry. This is a great add-on to Partsline.

Will it also perform POS function directly into the Parts Inquiry?

vtully,
Right now I think the only function of the Scan-It Parts is to recieve parts. You could give them a call and see if they are working on POS integration. The number is 1-810-695-9332.
Good luck.

Scan It Parts for recieving

Just an FYI...

At NADA, Scan-it-Parts was in the EDS booth and garnered a great deal of attention by our clients. In addition to doing receipting of inventory - Duane from Scan-It is developing vehicle invetory as an additonal feature of the system. I would expect to see this in the next 120 days.

It is important to note that this solution does not work for Saturn currently, as Saturn does not barcode their parts invetory - they literally have pictures of pigs, and chickens, and horses, etc. on their parts boxes. All other manufaturers provide bar codes and the system works with them such as Toyota, Ford, Chrysler, etc.

Hope this is helpful.

P.S., Jason, you may wish to check with Duane if you need any face-to-face support or want to see the vehicle inventory offering as he will be implementing it in another EDS client in Alaska in the early Spring.

Matt,

Perhaps in your previous post you should have explained what the icons on the Saturn boxes indicated. That way the non Saturn individual's would understands why they are there. Since you did not explain, I will.

The different icons are used on pick tickets. The individual attaches the pick ticket to the part after the part is pulled for the order. The pick ticket has information on it that allows individuals to track who packed the order for delivery. They use icons (musical notes, dragons, etc) to identify the different workers. The pick tickets also have the order number, route number, weight, retailers bin location located on the pick ticket. All of this information serves a purpose.

There are quite a few Saturn parts that have bar codes on them. It would be nice if all of them did, but perhaps in the future.

Thanks for your time.
