Hyundai Smart Stock

Hyundai Smart Stock

Postby CTB » Mon Jun 16, 2014 5:50 pm

I'm perplexed. I can't seem to get & keep my Hyundai Smart Stock monthly numbers w/in the guidelines, particularly the purchase efficiency, level of service, & true turns. From everything I've been told by a variety of sources, the key is to run lost sales religiously, allow the stock orders to go through w/ very few adjustments, & sell more Hyundai parts on Hyundia ROs. We've been running lost sales to the point where we're way above guide & I personally do the stock orders so I know we're not slashing numbers. The PI/PO & BSL/BRP settings are extracted weekly so I know they're right. True turns is kind of a tough one because Hyundai's pricing on certain things (like axle shafts) can be ridiculous. BTW, we get tires through Hyundai Dealer Tire & bill them on the repair orders. I wonder if those part numbers on Hyundai ROs are counted towards or against this metric.
I'd be grateful for any input on this.
Thanks!!!

Hello CTB,

You sound pretty frustrated? Here are several things I can tell you about calculating your Smartstock numbers with regards to your management report.
First of all, look at your phase out criteria for each Movement Code (A, B, C). I am going to assume that your "A" parts phase in is 1mos demand in 5 mos, "B" parts phase in is 2 mos demands in 8 mos, and "C" parts phase in with 3 mos demands in 8 mos. Based on the Smartstock settings I have seen recently, forgetting your Phase Out Guide, parts are to be tested for 12 months. Here is what we have found out. You have an "A" part with a demand that you do not fulfill, you put the part on your shelf, and the special status (or stocking status) will remain at "NS". The same with B or C parts. The point being, you may have had enough demand on A, B, or C parts and ended up putting them on the shelf, but the status is still NS (Non Stock). In reality, you should remove the NS status and make them active and let the Phase Out criteria change them from "Blank" (or Active) to AP Status when they hit the criteria. You could have quite a few NS status parts that have had enough demand on NS status. This will get you some more active numbers without really cheating the system.
Also, with regards to level of service, you might consider rolling your customer orders into your stock order, if this is what your are doing anyway, and this will help your purchase efficiency. This is dividing your customer and emergency purchases into your stock order receipts. If you are ordering customer parts critical, then continue to do them that way, but if you are truly ordering some non critical customer orders on your stock order, roll them in to that order type.... Hope that helps you out?
