Key Machines?

Key Machines?

Postby scott2112 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:33 pm

My fear came to fruition. After all the keys I have cut for this recall, my cutter took a dive. It will cost 1500.00 to fix A new machine is 5500 and a laser is 7700 from BD. My boss wants the cheapest one possible. What is everyone using? Any ideas?

Leasing !! if it breaks it's their problem.

I cannot recommend the BD. It has issues and the new owners of barnes don't seem to care.

The new ILCO looks nice, but I havn't seen it in person.

I have the BD laser, no problems yet. I have read the horror stories, but thankfully, we have not seen any issues. On another note, we are the only dealer within about 200 or so miles with a laser cutter... so we are cutting keys for many dealerships...

We have the Barnes Laser Cutter here. We just got it in May and have cut over 600 keys with it for the recall on the A bodies and we have cut the new high security keys also. Other then a few minor glitches, me not reading the bulletin about the Camaro keys it has worked well. We are 1 of the few dealers in our area that currently can cut the laser keys, but that will change in a few weeks, since the other dealers are pulling the trigger.

How much was that Barnes machine? I saw one in action yesterday when my Winzer wouldn't cut a Colorado key without destroying my machine.

It originally was $9,800.00 roughly when I looked at it, but then they dropped to $7,495.00 in May. They had another key cutter listed from Ilco that was around $7,200.00 but that one was on backorder, imagine that. It appeared that the Ilco machine was set up that you could cut either style key without switching things around like you do on the Barnes machine.

Camaroman- Can you tell me the exact model for your laser cutter? I need to order one. I assume these cut the Equinox, Camaros, and Cruzes, correct?

Thanks!

Green jaw for flip keys? (F jaw is purple for side cut keys)

Yes the green jaw is for the high security keys, aka laser cut keys.
