Dealerships should Strike

Dealerships should Strike

Postby Whiner » Sat Oct 19, 2019 12:11 am

I realize this will never happen. Getting dealer owners to agree on anything is nearly impossible. Getting them to agree not to take advantage of another dealer IS impossible - like herding cats, while riding a dog.

Just think if dealerships could / would strike. Think about that for a minute and what would you ask for?

Fair warranty reimbursement of parts

Fair labor times paid to technicians

Fair treatment of dealerships relating to all things policy / procedure related

Stop charging us the highest price out there for parts - we are the only ones selling your vehicles

Stop saying "Put the customer at the center of everything you do" when most representatives couldn't care less about the customer

Here is an idea - GM actually stocks a part and ships it to the dealer - the same day it is ordered. Dealer receives next morning PRIOR to opening

Help desks should be staffed and located in the country in which they serve - speaking the local language, understand the local expectations

I could go on but what do you want?

Since 2009 when GM went bankrupt and we taxpayers bailed them out, all dealers were forced to sign new dealer agreements.
At that time the dealers lost any voice or say that they had. GM has total control, and we do as they say, like it or not. This will not change and will only get worse.

Doesn't matter. GM will still come out smelling like a rose.

Plus you'll never get all of the dealer owners and dealer principals to push back.

I agree this won't ever happen.

But, what I would like to see happen is an entity like the NADA or some representative organization sue the UAW for all of the lost wages and income they have caused non-union people with their strike.
By that I mean dealership people like ourselves, workers laid off at GM's non-union suppliers, local and state governments for lost income tax and higher unemployment payouts, etc etc.

In this day of class action lawsuits, why not? It doesn't seem that far fetched.

It's a brilliant idea, but I don't see it gaining traction. GM would simply punish us in other ways. Cut car allocations, cut parts deliveries...

Agreed, the dealers can't do it. But it looks like it would be perfect for these law companies that bring lawsuits against companies "on behalf of" whoever.
I want to say I'm not usually a fan of this kind of thing, but it seems fitting for the UAW people. ;)
