takata recall

latest email from GM they want to send out a mailer and follow up email to customers with takata air bag recalls on vibes and 2500 and 3500 silverados and remind them about $50 reward card , well in typical GM fashion just checked availability of the recalled air bags at my facing pdc 051 , one part number is on national control other 4 numbers are from 9 to 169 pcs . so if you want to get more phone calls and then explain to the customer why parts aren't available you better opt out by Dec 5th , they cant ship the parts that we order and they want you to piss more people off . if it wasn't so sad it would be funny .

This, like all recalls, is Federally regulated and not a General Motors issue. All of my franchises that use Takata are in the same situation, and it stinks. One of the best tools I've found is the airbag recall application that you can install on your smartphone. Scan any license plate and find out if the vehicle is involved with the recall.

Take a little time to research this and you will see that the manufacturers are required to hit completion percentages, and with the age of many of the vehicles involved the ability to achieve them is nearly impossible; junkyards, rural locations, vehicles destroyed, owners that won't visit a dealership, etc.

What makes me upset is recalling the ones we replaced because they screwed something up with them. They tell us to take them off the shelf and send them back, but we can't because they don't have the shipping papers yet. This is a merry-go-round and it really sucks.

So, I am to assume that everyone else has the parts segregated off to the side? I haven't heard or seen any correspondence on how to dispose of, or, where to send these things.

Yes sir. Have them in a specific pile. As well as my 4 field scrap special return air bags that I am still waiting for Joyson/GM to get me return instructions/labels on for going on 2 months now
