gm serice line price need help
HI all. this problem I have .Service dept want to do job in shop and we give him price on gm parts. He said I don't want to loose job so get parts at part store. We mark up parts at parts store cost plus 60%. With service lane parts some parts are cost plus 100 markup. I looked at cost of parts store and gm and they about same but markup is high on GM anyone lower service line parts or match parts store price

First, don't forget the hit you will take on PASE for aftermarket parts on a GM VIN
2nd, with aftermarket parts when service forced it upon us (path of least resistance to the customer), I would mark the parts up the same dollar amount, not %, that we would have made on the factory parts. It still saves the customer money and you still make all your money. Makes it a little easier to swallow.

Did service even try to sell the OEM parts to the customer? Or did they just assume that the customer would balk? I would personally prefer to discount the OEM parts before I would purchase aftermarket. I had to take that PASE hit the first month I was at my current dealer... sucks getting surcharged 1% on ever part you buy and lose your RIM return privilege as well.

I would rather make less and sell GM parts. I also make sure that service understands if the part fails, your not dealing with any parts issue other than getting a new part. The labor is totally in their ball park. I had that bite me once, I won't do it again. Service Advisor wanted a cheap gear, I told them the deal and to make sure the customer knows it. A week later it went out and I had to deal with a service advisor and manager crying about labor. I told them then, if this was GM we wouldn't be sitting here pointing fingers as who should eat the labor, not my fault you did not relay the information to the customer. So, being the nice guy I am, I got them some labor but they had to ear a lot of it. The manager said then, anytime we use aftermarket parts, you make sure the customer knows that labor is not covered from here on it. I try to sell GM on every part even if the percentage is low. Less headaches for everyone.
