Parts Scan

Hi Robert,

Contact WD&S publishing and request a copy of May 2001, "THE PARTS MANAGER". I did an article on PartScan and profiled three of their pilot dealers. I think it will answer a lot of your questions.

While ADP Parts Scan has been reported as a good product you might consider PartsTRAC by GigaBytes Dealership Solutions... PartsTRAC works with all platforms (ADP, R+R, UCS etc) and has functionality not offered by ADP. PartsTRAC has also been on the market in dealerships for over 7 years...

I'm always glad to see competition in the vendor business, because it builds innovation and reduces costs, but you need to update your website. It states that you perform cycle counting and ADP does not - I and my dealership are proof that ADP does, and has for some time. The other gentleman above seems to be proof that their POS application is running fine in the US, and we are due to receive it shortly in Canada.

Again your site seems to misstate the current situation. Be a gentleman. Correct it.

Cameron:

You are correct our website is in need of revision which we are in the process of at this time.

ADP has done a good job in advancing the effectiveness of their parts bar code system. I give them credit for same in most presentations.

Generally speaking, the greatest challenge is education about a new product or solution. Frank writes in "Hot Topics - Bar Coding for Vehicles and Parts" referrencing Electronic Part Catalogs..."At first parts managers thought they were a gimmick but I don't see many paper catalogs anymore. Pricing has become more competive and the dealers who use this technology are enthusiastic about the savings and the accuracy."

True, and the point is, with more knowledge there has been greater acceptance of the bar code systems, and therefore the solutions, with dealer input, have become more innovative and are an even better value.

Thanks to you, DealersEdge Professional Forums, Frank and the others who are willing to take the time to express their experiences and opinions we will all get better.

Constructive input and direction is how we all get better.

Jay
