Are we all reaching the End - Of - The - Rope
Re: Are we all reaching the End - Of - The - Rope
How may of you remember GM's "PDQ"?
Re: Are we all reaching the End - Of - The - Rope
I remember PAD/PRO weekly and bi-weekly Target orders, as well as "CIO" and VIP freight = 2% of the cost plus $5.00 for 2nd day air. Overnight wasn't available unless you did a "will call" at your PDC.
Back then we did a lot of dealer to dealer, had 10% over accounts with everyone in three states, received parts by Pony Express, DHL, various other couriers and even had to pick up some parts at the Greyhound Bus stop!

I do not remember PDQ, although my memory is pretty bad. Target orders, oh I remember those, Reps used to love pushing them. Been here since 1985, manager since 1994. Can't remember all of the games that I have played with the General over all these years.
Re: Are we all reaching the End - Of - The - Rope
LPO= when it comes to profit" LEAVE PARTS OUT"
Re: Are we all reaching the End - Of - The - Rope
I don't remember PDQ either.
I do remember:
TGT - Target
TGP - Target Promotional - remember the primary and secondary discount structure within the target order? As well as the volume target order.
TMB - Target Merchandising Bonus - remember when the General used to reward us.
CIO - Kinda like VIP, just not as important
VIP - Very Important Part
PAD - Weekly stock order - AND SOMEHOW WE NOT ONLY SURVIVED BUT THRIVED!!
PRO - Too small to have ever done one, but had deals with those who did.
SSO - Supplemental Stock Order
and many, many more.
Most of the above also had "advise" codes and "special instruction" codes.
There used to be a LOT of ways to order parts.
How about 8% return reserve
5% stock order allowance - on everything, and a lot more on target
But remembering back then - we still complained about it... LOL
Parts Managers are never completely happy - gotta push things along. Unfortunately for the last several years we have been pushed instead of pushing. No I think we have been 'shoved' along with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude.
Basically GM doesn't care if we fail. In some cases I believe they wish some of us would fail. Do you get the feeling from GM that most everything is our fault and we have to deal with it completely on our own. We don't even get a thank you for your business anymore - just why didn't you hit the latest +10% objective last month.
Sorry - rant suspended for now.

How times are evolving.....maybe we can start up our own DealersEdge 100 Group and take over the automotive world
Re: Are we all reaching the End - Of - The - Rope
33 years with a GM dealership, the last 24 as service manager, I originally planned on working in one for at least 15 more years to retire but I am out. I will be turning my notice in this week. All the nonsense dealing with GM is a very large part of the reason for my early exit. The micro management from them is out of control.
I do have the satisfactin of leaving with my department well trained, profitable and no skeletons in the closet or major issues for my replacement to have to correct.
Good luck to everyone still in the trenches.

GM is slowly taking over and CONTROLLING all aspects of how a GM dealership will operate. They have pretty much completed their takeover of the Parts Departments, dictating what parts we stock, where we buy them from, and when we'll return them. They
are well on their way to taking control of the Service, New and Used Car Departments. Big Brother is watching. No use fighting it.
IT IS INEVITABLE.

You Will be Assimilated. Resistance is Futile............
