When did Silver battery become Gold

Post by drapp »

Recent battery pricing update has me checking sales pricing.

When did the Silver battery, such as 78PS, become Gold. The 78PS has a 30 month replacement warranty. By definition 30 month warranty is a Gold battery. The battery part number and label suggest Silver but a Silver battery only has a 18 month warranty.

The National Retail Program lists Gold 42 and Gold 30, along with Silver 18 month warranties.

What did I miss and when was it released.

78PS became 78S (88866121), I believe. Our distributor doesn't even carry 78PS. So many have changed numbers & warranty periods. 48PS CHANGES TO 48G, still has 30 month warranty. 34PS changes GM# to 88866059.

Batteries have become a fiasco like wiper blades. There are so many numbers for batteries that they don't even know what is going on. Not too mention the price changes without informing us.

So true. The days of 5YR, 6YR and 7YR made perfect sense. Now we have PS, PG, G, S, GHR, G110, G115...the list goes on and there is no rhyme or reason for it. Even our battery distributor can't help us make sense of it.

This used to drive me insane... We ended up going heavy on the advantage blades, and its been perfectly fine. We never really sold many OE blades to begin with

These are the 19426421 to 19426432 line. They fit everything (with the stupid adapters) everything GM, non GM, and whatever used car off brands that come in.

May actually only be a few times a year someone even asks us for anything more than those

I agree with the wipers, that has got better now that they have the ACDelco lines. We use a lot of those too.

We used to stock several different options for batteries, however, we switched to just offering the 42 month warranties to make selling and inventorying batteries easier
