Never to retail customers, tell them to come down in person with the car, license, registration, so we can assure that you are the owner, names have to match, we photo copy them (except the car lol) and get them too pay for the key code fee (ford) and invoice it, with their name and info on the invoice.

Only time over the phone is too reputable long time wholesale customer but they must fax or email me their repair order with the vin of the vehicle on the ro and name of the customer, again, matching with the registration and license.

My dealer got screwed a long time ago and this is the way it is done now~!

Ok Got it. Thanks. Still fairly new here at this GM store. My parts guy says we've helped this guy out for years. I informed him - never again without proper procedure. Should be good now. Thanks.

When I took over there were a couple customers that expected codes over the phone and at the counter no questions asked. I put a stop to that, even tow company's that think they can get keys made with no paper work. I plan on keeping my job thank you very much.

My dealer set a policy that even includes names and addresses must match, and paperwork must be valid. No expired registration etc. I had to sit down with a detective from the local PD once because a car was reported stolen a couple days after we pulled a code. Not going through that again.

Another question regarding key codes:

What do you require, info wise, from Banks or Repo Companies who are asking for a key to be cut by VIN ?
What about other Car Lots, Used Car Dealers?

Banks, car lots must show proof of ownership. If they don't have lien paperwork or any forms stamped off from the dmv I will not help them. Save all of the copied information.
