"AS THE WORLD TURNS in the PARTS DEPARTMENT IN METRO DETROIT" PILOT

TYPICAL EXCHANGE WITH CUSTOMER:

Customer speaks: If I order this part with you when do you think it will be in?

Parts Consultant speaks: I don't know.

Customer thinking to himself : what is this guy stupid?

Customer speaks: What does that mean?

Part Consultant: When I order parts from certain warehouses in Michigan, they don't have the best tracking and I never know when I will receive these parts. They give me an ETA (estimated time of arrival),but that truthfully is a rough estimate. I am sorry. If I was pulling that off the shelf myself I could guarantee you will receive it in a timely manner.

Customer thinks to himself: I should have gone somewhere else, this guy is full of shit.
Customer speaks: That's kind of stupid. How can I get this part any quicker?
Parts Consultant: If you want it guaranteed you will have to pay an overnight fee, but that might be 2 days because GM sometimes can't process overnights in a timely manner, and what that really means is they have 24 hours to process that order. But in my experience it usually arrives next day, but if it does not you still pay for the overnight.

Customer speaks: Never mind I will go to the junkyard or Auto Zone.
Customer thinks to himself: Wow I think I am going to another dealer. I think that guy did not want to sell me a part.

IS THIS APPLY TO ANYONE?

Yep, that's how it is.

We have a shop today that ordered a part yesterday. It was a Service Lane part so it upgraded to CSO-3 and referred from Martinsburg to Philadelphia. Philadelphia didn't ship it.
Now shop is mad at us and thinks we suck. Had to buy one from another local dealer to make the shop happy. Now we have lost money on this transaction. At least we normally stock the part so the spord isn't a big deal.

This is one of those brake line kits that comes in a giant box so I guess overnight is out of the question. So maybe it shouldn't a SLP part?

OVN cutoff times play a huge role in that as well. We send our order around 4:30 pm because 007 has a 5:00 pm cutoff. Philadelphia, however, has a 4:00 pm cutoff so anything ordered at 4:30 pm wouldn't ship until the following day. I have been bitten several times by that, so I finally got a copy of facility cutoff times and will refer to it when quoting availability.

Happens here in NY too.. Philadelphia is ridiculous lately. They are changing over to Black Horse and their current trucking outfit is doing everything in their power to screw over the dealer body. I have a car down in the shop now since Wednesday waiting for a starter, Philly shorted it on Thursday I re-ordered one just in case it didn't show up on Friday, neither showed up Friday. Called them they FOUND IT!!! I will have it Saturday... Guess what? No one knows where either one is now.. I am stuck buying it now from another dealer at a loss because my local WD doesn't even stock it... OH Yea, but they found my RIF Shortages from 2 months ago sitting on the cross dock...

I had that happen with a fuel line assembly for a cab and chassis about two months ago. SPAC says that they've tried getting the proper people to change the service lane classification, but that they said it wasn't possible. I also had it happen with a high pressure fuel injector for a new tahoe. Says service lane, get part a week later. Call and complain, get told nothing they can do.

 anymore, I say that it could potentially be 3-5 days for a part if they don't pick up the overnight shipping.
